Thanks for pointing this out! Had the same problem for a year and a half now, will take a look
Ah this is important to me, but I presume I can just load it when I need it for gaming and wonāt interfere by default (I hope)
i“m running a I7 7700K - 16Gb Ram - 2080Ti @ Pimax 5K+. DCS is very hard to get running smooth in VR. My DCS is running smooth now but it took a lot of tweeking time, and i talk about hours and days of tweeking settings.
Basicly do this:
- Optimize your Windows for Gaming purpose. ( you can find Youtube Tutorials how to do that)
- Check Bios settings if Ram,CPU, etc. is optimized.
- Make sure you have latest Tools and Driver. (update all! Mainboard,Sound,GPU,USB,Pitool,Firmware and so on⦠make your system uptodate.
- Make a Virus scan with a good Virusscaner. (I use Spy bot, it“s free and i can highly recommand)
- Make a clean DCS āopen Betaā install on a SSD! This is where you get the most performance if you dont use SSD already!
- Optimize Nividia settings for DCS. ( you find Youtube Tutorials how to do this)
- Buy fpsVR on Steam, it“s only a few bucks. But it“s very helpfull to adjust and tweek your Games for VR.
- Pitool settings: 1.0SS - Smart Smoothing On - Hidden Area Mask ON. Paralell Projektion OFF, since you dont need PP in latest open Beta of DCS anymore! Everything else, turn OFF. Set Refresh to 90 Hz.
- Run DCS with Pitool 1.0 SS and SteamVR 100% and Ingame 1.0 SS, your system should run well with this settings.
- Now here comes the try and error part, and it might take Hours⦠Balance out the DCS settings, since nobody can tell you how to set them up, because every system is a bit different in Performance.
Basicly you start from turning everything OFF and LOW, and begin from there. Your goal is to raise up settings, one step after the other and check FPS, make shure that FPS always stable at 45FPS, dont go below, because āsmart smoothingā will break down if you are at 44FPS or lower, we dont whant that!
MSAA,SSAA,SSRL,Anisotrope AA etc. Takes the most Performance!
Dont feel bad to turn them off, since Nvidia settings should take care of that whitch you did on step 6.
Raise ViewDistance,Shadows at the last step, since they take lots of performance. Dont feel bad leaving them OFF or LOW.
I also recommend āsmall FOVā over ānormal FOVā at least in DCS, since you will measure FPS drops between those two. But tweek for your personal taste, i like smaller FOV with higher graphics settings over bigger FOV and lower graphics settings.
Good luck and i hope you will get your DCS to run like mine⦠super smooth
I canāt stand any stuttering; thatās why I have my 8K in its box inside a wardrobe and I use my Oculus Quest instead.
DCS is a pig ancient sim built up from 32bit Windows DX9 to later add DX11 and 64bit and more recently VR support⦠ED devs were talking improved performance coming but so far nothing. In fact the last patch cost a few fps for me.
@SweViver mentioned during CES that he was going to work with Matthew to release some tweaks vids for flight sims soon.
Thanks for the info! Iāll keep that in mind.
Iām planning to run it always, so I can enjoy videos and movies too. Iām also going to install it on my company-owned laptop, since it will help with all the (remote) meetings I attend.
I used it for a few hours and VoiceMeeter is a huge quality of life improvement for me.
First i lost some FPS with 2.5.6 as well, but they have patched 2.5.6 again and since then it gave back the missing FPS.
Not sure if you where on the latest ālatestā 2.5.6 or the old less fps 2.5.6.
Give it a try, again. I cant complain at all now.
I see a1.7 gig patch i had not got yet. Doesnāt report performance improvement, but will check it out. Thx for the heads up.
Than You so much xHDGx! This was certainly some good info for me. Very much appreciated.
Had to walk away for now, but you have given me a good checklist to follow. As a real world pilot, that is what Iām used too the most, is a an orderly step way to accomplish things.
Best,
David
This almost brings tears to my eyes, Iām so tired of this issue, I really really hope youāre right and itās indeed fixed, I have basically stopped using VR completely for this reason, crossing fingers and waiting impatiently for the new pitool update.
Does this new Pitool include Brainwarp 2.0?
@SweViver Thatās amazing. Actually having pinned this down to the exact problem significantly enhances overall headset reliability. Great work!
@dogbite
The tweaks, primarily, are my spreadsheets, which have been published for a while now, and continue to be updated.
Videos do need to be done to explain how to use all the infrastructure I have to make the flight sim experience smooth (and not just in terms of framerate).
Awesome, I look forward to this update!
Not sure why you directed that at me. Been computer gaming since the 70s. Been building my own rigs since the early 90s. I enjoy all my games and they run within expected parameters for my hardware and for what i will settle on graphically.
Thanks for the thought though.
Pac-Man boys in the building Same hereā¦
Pre-PacMan or Pong even, Used to play an in-house created Star Trek game on the TRW network against my brother late at night.
@dogbite
Woah, no offense intended! I was responding to this.
I am āMatthewā, and I developed the spreadsheets.
Aside from the spreadsheets, I have also have Joystick Gremlin profiles, Voice Attack Profiles, various batch scripts to load/unload compiled shaders and such, sequences of shortcuts to start sim and all supporting apps, etc. The extendedInterface project also includes carefully drawn up standards for such things as joystick button/hat command grouping. My most recent project has been a Linux Virtual machine with scripted window placement as a sort of ākneeboard computerā.
I think it will be very, very interesting to see if more than an extreme minority actually adopt the entirety of my excessive infrastructure for managing flight sims and such.
Oh man, so Close selling my xrā¦
Hi Matthew. Please accept I wasnāt taking offence. I just hadnāt connected it was you that was responding. Just found it curious is all, until realizing that.
The wooshing sound was that going right by me.
Thanks for the clarification and your contributions.
Any estimate for the release of this new PiTool version including this fix for the stutter/judder problem? Waiting here so eagerly for this that almost about to burst
Seems like eternity of suffering from this problem and finally might be able to get rid of the old .144 version of PiTool and update to a newer one with all of the performance and other improvements
