Next gen Display port 1.5 will allow 8KX to use one cable, but still no GPU will run it (a card twice as powerful as the 2080ti or 2080ti SLI for 80hz), so 8K+ should be offered as well

My 2080ti renders 2x4k (in most of my games) for my Pimax 8K in 80hz and FFR. So I don’t see why the 8K-X should give any problems. For the demanding games I hope Pimax will use the eyetracking for foveated rendering.

Depending on the application, it might be nice to render at 1.25-1.5x the Pimax 8kX native resolution. My own tests show that is possible as well, but THAT should be the goal, not just the native resolution.

EDIT: Sorry for bumping the old thread, unintentional.

Product stacks dont evolve based on what should be, but based on a guaranteed return on investment. If the yeilds on the panels were not stable at 90, then 80hz is an acceptable compromise. Pimax is a business, and when dealing on a large scale, developing new products can actually be cheaper than refining an existing model.

I haven’t been following 8K-X GPU and cable requirements since Kickstarter - can someone please update me on what is required for the updated 8K-X release vs the updated 8K+ release? The original Kickstarter HW requirement was that TWO of the latest generation GPUs and TWO display port cables would be needed to drive the 8K-X… Is that still true? I somehow got the impression during the last PIMAX update only one GPU and display port cable would now be needed it seems I must be mistaken. Can I run an 8K-X at all with one state of the art GPU and one display port cable at least in up-sample mode so get the functional equivalent of 8K+ while leaving the door open to add a second GPU and display port cable later if I decide the cost is worth the true 8K-X experience? If someone could clarify this I’d greatly appreciate it. Thanks

It was “possibly two” 1080Ti. Currently one DP port should be enough (but it is special cable not interchangeable with other Pimax HMD’s and so far it seems not possible to extend range). As for GPU it depends but they claim the requirements should be around the same as 8K (because that one you need to upscale to get good image) so one powerful GPUseems to be enough for decent performance.
