My First Impressions of the StarVR One - The Widest Human FOV VR Headset available!

I wish i had your face shape,
I found the vertical view not great on the starvr one, i saw alot of Black borders.

Also i saw them on the horizontal field of view…
But i have that with most headsets that i been pushed away from the screens to much so adjustable lenses or a thinner faceplate is a must for me.

dmel are you still enjoying your StarVR One these days? Have they released any updates that’s improved the image quality? Do you still see as much blurriness as you did when you first got it, particularly in racing sims?

Also what is your IPD?

Yes, I’m still enjoying it. It’s no longer blurry. You just can’t see as much detail from far distances. My ipd is 64 or 65.

I’m currently working on a mod for Boneworks that integrates the StarVR SDK with it, if I succeed it’ll significantly improve image quality and enable DFR.

The blurriness is due to the stacked lens designed of the headset to achieve 210 FOV. If you develop specifically for the headset then you can mitigate it

Thanks for the reply dmel and VRTECH, much appreciated.

dmel…can the mod you are working on for Boneworks theoretically be done for other games as well? For example, can it be done for say, AC or iracing?

Also, your IPD is 65…that is close to mine, which is 68. Is it safe to assume that if I were to obtain a StarVR One sometime down the line, that that my perception of the image clarity would be close to yours?

If I manage to get it working for Boneworks then yes its possible for other Unity made games. It’s all thanks to MelonLoader. It could be done for games that use other engines only if there is exists modding software for them equivalent to MelonLoader.

It’s impossible for me to know what your experience will be like in the headset. You have to try it yourself.

Gotcha buddy. Thanks for the info. Going by your impressions it seems I would be quite happy with the StarVR One. The fact that Assetto Corsa and Iracing work fairly well, is enough for me to want a StarVr One, but I don’t have the funds right now to buy one. We’ll see what happens by the end of the year and I may try and get one.

In the meantime, please continue your impressions of the StarVR One and more importantly, when your Pimax 8K-X arrives, please do a thorough comparison between the 8K-X and the StarVR One, and tell us which one in your opinion is better.

Cool, that’s exactly what I was thinking. But how do you know for sure? Did they confirm it? Or did you find out though experiments?

I know somebody that removed the top lenses. So basically the StarVR still using the same idea of stacked lens as the Infiniteye

looks like there is more then just a better lens profile refinement (as one of the former starvr hardware developer was implying)

Just curious, but what happened when he removed the top lens? Did it result is a significantly clearer image?

…Apparently not

Cool. Glad we’re back…finally!

The colours are so good and the FOV so wide that I was looking at objects up close in Half Life Alyx and felt like I was looking at real life. StarVR did an amazing job with their RGB Oled screens. Also the 16million subpixels really helps in getting rid of SDE. I have to look for it to notice it.
