Minimal ghosting vs no ghosingt. Pimax 8k

I asked her similar question here (4q), she not answered straight but I thought her “We take a long time to prepare and test the hmd” mean kickstarter version equal (or at least planning to be equal) to afterkickstarter version. But now I’m not sure…

Maybe it will depend on how well kickstarter does for them? So they’re leaving it open at the moment…? just a thought…

We have spent most of our investors’ money in R&D, but we do Kickstarter is not only for funding. Via Kickstarter, we hope to let more developers know we have the hardware ready, they can get the headset with a discounted price and start to produce more content/accessories for big FOV high-resolution device.

Okay then how close is the kickstarter model to projected final release product? Say in terms of with the modules could the kickstarter model potenially be upgraded via a kit to the consumer release?

& about unaswered questions. Hardware/mech side of ipd adjustment.

Manual focus adjustment or will the model have option of prescription lens adapters?

The hardware knob is to adjust the distance between lenses. and the model support glasses and customized frame. Let me check with the team about if the team plan to make changes to the final product on Kickstarter.

@deletedpimaxrep1

Does it move only lenses?

OR

Does it move the display and lense together?

Very important question

got it, will include that in FAQ

I don’t see how it could move both the lenses and the display , since the display is on a canted angle, I would surmise that it was already challenge for pimax to adjust the lenses just to see in the center of the display clearly. Let alone to have people change it.

Awesome. So the customized frame; would that be prescription lens adapter clip ons like the ones is it vrlabs makes for vive/rift?

the frame looks like this:

So just to confirm as @LukeB & others. The Frame you pointed out this is a prescription adapter that folks who want to experience vr without wearing their own glasses? & will be available to purchase at time of kickstarter or short time after?

I think I have three important questions regarding the prescription lens addon:
Can I get my optician to order one?
Does it fit together with the eye tracker?
Can it be swapped easily?

It would be easier if Pimax just made the distance between the lenses and display adjustable.
Surely the displays could mounted on an adjustable frame that could move back and forth a few millimetres?
That would resolve the focus issue once and for all.
Prescription lenses are expensive and that would be an additional cost on top of the unit itself.

Let’s be clear about this. How much are we prepared to spend to watch videos and play the few VR games that are actually worth playing?

Do you know that I can buy a new 65" 4K UHD TV for less than the 8K kit would cost? And no issues with IPD and focus.

Software/hardware mechanical ipd was confirmed a while ago it seems.

I hear you though with the screens mounted on an angle. Straight moving towards and away might not work opposed to having the screen mounted 90° or straight from eyes.

With the add on frame adapter though it could be setup to order them with prescription or get the adapters & have your eye glass place fit them with your prescription lenses.

@aesopfabled while Luke has mentioned ipd; for folks like him are looking for manual focus for reason of needing glasses.

I just want manual ipd for better focal overlap

Yes I understand.
It may be that optical adaptors as shown above may be the only way, but in that case perhaps set of lenses could be provided as an option that has a similar affect as moving the focus in and out by a small amount.

It would definitely be a deterrent to purchasing the 8K if on top of the unit cost and in some cases necessary upgrades to the PC, there is also more expense for new lenses.

I would have thought that if the optics were designed correctly, people should be able to simply wear their own glasses. I still don’t understand why this didn’t work in the 4K. I can only assume that the 4K’s focus point was not set at the correct distance in it’s design.

I hope that someone who wears glasses tries the 8K at one of the shows and reports back.

The 8k in theory should work with glasses as they said its using the same focus as vive/rift. Where as i think the reason it didn’t work on the 4k due to being setup for myopia naked eye & 20/20. It would be interesting to test this further on the 4k with your spacer mod to see if can change the focus distance to match vive/rift.

Yes it would be an interesting test, but I don’t think the lenses would be able to achieve the same result.
Besides, my unit is working so well at the moment I really don’t want to mess with it any more for now.

I hope you’re right about the 8K. I would be happy to get one if it was focused with my glasses on.
Again, it would be great if someone that wears glasses (long sighted) was able to try the 8K out and report back.
