There are small black rubber grommets at the base of the connector you can remove by lifting them out… Problem solved. They made the tolerances too tight and that rubber grommet makes it very difficult to get the internal mechanism to click.
If you are careful, you can remove them with a exacto knife or sewing needle intact.

Which strap on which headset are you talking about?
The default strap and the arms that connect to the headset… At the end of the arms, where the headset plugs in you will see a very thin black ring around the center area. This is the rubber grommet. You can remove it intact if you are careful.
