I pulled the trigger? 4090 incoming

Yeah so much in this topic may have added a detail incorrectly. My apologies.

This is what I was referring to with my comment. Which might in turn lead OP to think he would need a new PSU as he has already explained that he only have 3x8-pin outputs. This Corsair model was manufactured with different options, carrying the same name. The model after his they actually downgraded it to only have 2x8 pins.

yep, on the other hand, the cables look considerably thicker, AWG 16 or more (edit, hmm, looks thicker then mine. 15 maybe). Shouldn’t be a problem in this respect.

Ah. Then this is the underlying source of misunderstanding, I think. It’s news to me that the PSU could have the same model number and yet not have as many ports. I accept this correction. I missed it and didn’t know it was possible.

I just would like to add my findings.
I have a 4090 and a Corsair RM850X i connected 2 pcie daisy cables to the 4 connection adapter of the card, with no problems. I tested with Cyberpunk with the Luke Mod to be sure there is high gpu usage.
After time only the adapter cable gets a bit warm, like 40-45C wich would happen in any case, the 2 splitcables and connectors to the PSU stay completely cool.

Another thing , if your on the fence between 4080 and 4090, do yourself a favor get the 4090
I did have a 4080 wich is a very good upgrade over the 3080 in VR, but here in the Netherlands the 4090 has become a lot cheaper and with 400 bucks extra it feels you buy a next gen card over the 4080, (luckely i could exchange it). Wich makes it cheaper and more fun in the long therm.
Its a beast…

Hey Jeroen- thank you for your input - right now im using 3 difernt and not the 4th all runs also good but hope that i not get performance cut. I tryed flightsimulator and i had regular dips to 45 frames and below and ground looked blurry - quite disapointing for such gpu… WHo the heck can run this game

I am indeed seeing a lot of people saying that both NVidia and AMD have apparently flipped the whole performance/cost curve upside down this generation, with the top-end cards offering more per buck than the cheaper ones, contrary to the traditional pricing scheme…

Maybe some price adjustments will occur, once they have managed to offload their back-stock of last generation products… :7

This generation is horrible. I paid £650 for my 3080 now how much is a 4080?

For the size and wattage I’ll be hanging tight for another generation.

Hi, people use them with 3 without overclocking so you should be good. In msfs do you use Openxr toolkit? You can get it sharp with CAS and override game resolution in the menu and use motion reprojection. But it’s true even the 4090 struggles with msfs

No I just use oculus link and go from there

Speaking of traveling back in time, were you able to go back to the time before Rockstar Games were removed from Luke’s mod?

i see people saying the same, but what makes u think the next generation will be any different? they’ll be even bigger and more power hungry imo, and more expensive. that’s the trend with these things.

It’s not a sustainable business model is it? Hotter, more power, bigger power supplies, way more money.

More people will switch from PC to consoles or like me keep their cards for two generations until the value returns.

My 3080 cost me £650 direct from Nvidia so I’m in no hurry to upgrade.

i honestly think they’ll only get hotter, more power hungry, more expensive as that’s the way it’s always been. there’s never been a generation that went backwards in any respects. people are still buying these gpu’s. i don’t like paying these prices, i don’t like having to upgrade my psu, but i want the performance gains so i have to.

That’s VR doomed then. How can a stand-alone headset get hotter and hotter? Have bigger and bigger and bigger batteries? And cost more than the £400-500 sweet spot?

standalone vr and pc gpu’s are different things though. standalone then yeah it cant go bigger or hotter etc…and look how limited it is. pc gpu’s…well i believe there is a good way to go before they get too big and hot etc. i hope i’m wrong but history says they only go 1 way.

The XR2 SoC is the same technology as found in any GPU they’re all just transistors. One can’t be immune from the other. If efficiencies can be found in one the same efficiencies will be found in the other.

If the XR3 needs 30% more power bettered will surely need to get 30% bigger or 30% more efficient.

Nvidia only see profits and there’s more profit making bigger less efficient GPUs leaving the consumer to buy bigger PSUs and cases.

Apple on the other hand like slim efficient products so it’s going to be interesting to see them enter the VR space.

in 2024 we’ll see whether the 5090 will be smaller/cooler/cheaper or hotter/bigger/more expensive. i think the latter. btw the 4090 does use less power compared to a 3090 if they run at the same fps.

I made the same upgrade and it cost my wallet dearly, (considering I just bought the 3080Ti in Feb 2022 for the same price as the 4090 cost)

sold my 3080Ti for a third of what I paid for it

However, damn I can’t believe it’s nearly twice as fast

nVidia definitely upsold all of us with their shady plan. (4080 pricing is so close to 4090 it would be absurd for anyone not to nudge their budget up a bit to grab the 4090)

nVidia played us like the sheep we are, :sheep:

proof of this is that nearly every VR YouTuber I have watched for years who normally rock 60-70 level cards are now posting videos about how they all have 4090’s now.

It’s funny because the only people who really need a card like a 4090 are VR gamers.

seeing pancaker’s with anything above a 3000 series is completely unneeded, what good is a framerate in the 300’s anyway.

yep, VR is the only reason i upgraded my 3080. The 4090 is a definite beast though, the difference has been amazing with my 8KX.
