HP Reverb G2 vs. Pimax 8KX - My Full Review and Comparison

I’m curious to see if the same 8KX users, who gave you lots of compliments after the first video, will do it again now :grin:

Thanks for the update. Based on @vrgamerdude video it does seem there’s a notable amount of fov left on the table with a gasket and face cushion mod and since you’re handy with doing such, please detail any steps you take towards it.

Your ips and tn analogy makes a lot of sense and probably the best way someone has explained the PQ differences between the two headsets so far.

Are you on the latest WMR patch that had additional improvements since launch?

Yes I’m on latest patch. So I’ve come up with a simple mod that makes my eyes much closer to the lenses and increases FOV quite a bit while still being comfortable. I’ll detail the mod in another video tomorrow!

Sweet! Would you mind running the fov test that mrtv uses as a before and after and share the figures in the upcoming video?

I can’t wait to go from a 5k+ to this

you realize ppl are giving dmel642 compliments because of his effort testing stuff out right? not because he support a certain brand. He literally has all the brands lol.

I mean the 8KX is already a massive improvement over the Index and many other headsets. And it has a huge FOV advantage. So I don’t think they’ll stop giving compliments just because G2 is a bit better haha. People want good VR regardless of loyalty to any brand.

The review was not correct at all, it was the result of a test management error, which he honestly corrected in a second video. So to say that people complimented a “RIGHT” review … where Pimax came out much better than it really is … is simply confirmation of what I wrote. And your answer is emphasizing it.

The fact that the Pimax has a larger FoV than the G2 is an obvious one no one doubts about this. Many were pleased with your first video, because you said that the Pimax was also better on other factors such as comfort, and that even in the display they were very similar. You have corrected these aspects … and now only the FoV remains the only obvious advantage of the Pimax 8KX …

Yes exactly, some of us have pointed out that his test methodology is flawed, his response was that he doesn’t want his videos being compared to “professional” reviews, but insists on still calling them “reviews” when they should be titled “what I messed up this week”.

At least he’s had the balls to print a retraction and admit his methodology was flawed, maybe he could learn from this for future videos.

I realy hope we can have a facemask so we can come much closer to the lenses, that would be great!

geoffvader - your posts feel like a deliberate attempt to both insult and patronise. Sad :disappointed:

it doesn’t mean pimax came out much better than it really is, it has always been the same, just that g2 was being tested and underated in his initial test.

ppl shopping in this price bracket of vr gadgets are different to say teenagers buying their first console, where they had to choose 1 and stick with it, and stand behind their purchased brand.

where some of us here merely looking for better experience, and not fixated on any brand. for example even if i own a 8kx i recommeded quest2 to 4 of my vr beginner friends and g2 to a friend who’s willing to spend abit more. i however, have not yet recommeded a pimax to a friend, even tho i like it.

When you pair the index controllers to the g2, does it require the use of the windows MR controllers to calibrate? I’ve seen a couple videos suggesting the controller tracking is a bit of a weak spot, and not being the industry standard due to lack of capacitive sensor.

Many of us already using the index controllers, just wondering if it require the MR controller to do the pairing, as g2 has hmd only option to purchase.

I would take a look at the conversation we had yesterday before casting aspersions, I tried to give him some valuable feedback / critique and he responded with ad hominem attacks… then 24 hours later posts a new video confirming exactly what feedback I’d given him on his first video

if pointing this out comes off as “insulting” then maybe some people shouldn’t be doing youtube in the first place - as I pointed out he has much worse comments on his youtube channel than this already

he’s putting himself out there as a youtube “reviewer” and so people are comparing his reviews to other reviews and pointing out how some other reviewers use, in their opinion, a better review methodology - his response seems to be that he isn’t willing to put that amount of time and effort in to his own channel - which is fine, but then if he isn’t prepared to put time and effort in to his own channel then why should anyone put the time and effort in to watching his videos?

I stand by my compliment and I don’t regret cancelled reverb g2 order . My next upgrade from 8kx will need to be more then G2. Just my opinion.
