Has anyone tried the new 6M Fiber cable for 8K-X

Since my 8KX cable is already starting to show some sparkles, I ordered this from the Pimax store as well. :crossed_fingers:

If the weight is less than the original and the perfomance as good as the original I will happily order one of these. The weight of slack on the basic 8KX cable is… significant.

Would one of the early adopters be able to test if this is capable of transmitting the Eye Tracking data without additional cables?

So we ordered with some people here the optical cable,they were on stock they said.
Why has nobody received a tracking number yet??

Nifty as the optical cable could be, I haven’t ordered one myself, just put it in cart. After all, I probably have a lot of VR hardware to buy in the near future, and my 8kX cables are not getting used at roomscale (too rough on the fresh PRODUCTION unit lenses, too rough treatment for a one of a kind NOT FINAL prototype…).

I think it’s fair to say that was a naive claim to make. Looking around, all the companies I see are either startups, multi-billion dollar companies doing not much innovating, or failures.

Pimax is still a startup. I think it is fair to say they will be, until they reach vastly larger 8kX production volumes.

They will be a Startup until the production and services have no internal errors anymore. They need to build up their own system to run everything smoothly. Until the gears are not smooth, they will be a startup.

Like a old engine. You turn it on, it runs but roughly. After a while it’s getting smoother and smoother and than the engine is running well and you are not in a start up situation anymore. Only if this happens, then Pimax isn’t a startup anymore :wink:

Exactly what you have said. Pimax on started to sell vr Headsets in 2016. Of which they designed but had manufacture and distribution handled by 3rdparties. Now Pimax is trying to do all parts: Design, Manufacture and distribution.

A major change from simply designing. Even with the p1 headsets it was very early days compared to other headset makers in there region like 3glasses and Deepoon for example.

Alot to learn from where they began to where they want to be. In all honesty maybe to big of a challenge for most emerging companies; while they are not maybe doing stellar. They are learning with these growing pains. And are still moving forward in spite of these huge challenges.

A :us: company (Target:dart:) tried to expand beyond the :us: into :canada: and completely failed miserably. There Canadian venture completely collapsed.

As far as expectations go from the initial Kickstarter they have, in my own experience surpassed those initial expectations.

I was pretty dubious when I saw the stretch goals. I took each one with a handful of salt having a reasobable appreciation for how much each of those additions would cost the company (a lot). I did not back for the stretch goals, so given what we ended up with I am not too bothered by it not being what was originally promised.

People slam them pretty hard for their shakey customer service, situational at best and not a general representation of the company. My basestations arrive tomorrow, despite me having confuddled the situation by wanting to buy more after placing my original Kickstater order PIMAX managed to track agreements made via email on the old order system, involving employees no longer working at the company. I will have then recieved everything I paid for and will happily buy from them again.

This unfortunately I can understand why. Some have had great quick resolution while others are on an endless merry-go-round; something that definitely needs to be addressed quickly. Even a bad situation can result in a good customer experience. Seemingly ignoring or suddenly stop communicating with a customer is just horrible. Simple requests like a refund/cancellation of an order is something that should be resolved quickly. Offer once incentive to keep; once it is clear to cancel & refund complete the action.

Make sure your customer service team has up to date info instead of needing other team members needing to try help cut through the red tape.

While we’re on the subject:

  1. What is the official length of the existing 8kX cable? I measured mine out to around 12 feet (3.7m) but that number doesn’t fit, as America is the only one using ā€œfeetā€ and 3.7 is not a ā€˜normal’ number. Not to mention that it depends on exactly where you measure from: the usb plugs or the junction.

  2. Anyone have any guesses on whether the new cable will fare better than other cables when you run it over with your chair? :roll_eyes: At least I’m on carpet…

Ah, I thought it was only me waiting on the cables to get shipped lol

I do hope in future tho there be like 8M and 10M as well. But for now the 6M is the only size cable that is in the making… Better than this cable length for the time being than the default one. Since its short xD

So I put in the order Dec 4th, all paid with extra for the shipping, $149, it said ships within 2 days. Ahh today is the 12th and no shipping info and no reply back to emails, thanks Pimax… I understand we have a pandemic but we’ve had this since the beginning, if you knew you were gonna have issues shipping, then don’t have it up for sale. I’m giving you till Monday morning to at least respond with some type of info and then i’m filing a dispute through paypal to get my refund for non shipment, last time I’ll be buying something from you off your site, I wish you had this on Amazon like the 8KX I bought, I got that within the time frame. You guys should be up to speed by now you’ve been doing business for sometime now.

Another thing I’d like to add is I bought this within the Black Friday deals that if you buy a 8KX you will get an email for a coupon to get the fiber cable free, well don’t buy it off Amazon because like I did because they won’t give you the coupon, only if it was bought from the Pimax store. I thought the deal was the same no matter if i bought it off Amazon or from the store, I just wanted to make sure I was getting it in a reasonable time and you know you will from AMZ. So I do give them my $149 and still nada 2 weeks later. TNX.
