FS2020 VR + Pimax Discussion

Haha “our 3080/3090 gpus” I wish! I spent all my money on my 8KX and a new computer.

Good reminder. Its easy to forget with a Pimax that turning down the FOV is an option. We shoukd rename potato view to G2 view.

Try what VR Flight Sim Guy says here

apparently all of the nvidia drivers beyond the one they optimized for msfs2020 (452.06) are crap performance.

Remember when you and @mixedrealityTV were that close :slightly_smiling_face: ?

Too Soon?

In Pitool I set the render quality to 1.5, Normal FOV, Steam VR ss to 30% (around 3800 horizontal resolution) and I kept render quality in MSFS at 100 - that gives me something around 2400 x 2xxx something resolution. I absolutely dont understand how that resolution thing works, And then I just put almost everything to low under VR settings. Anyway - I get around 20 fps. Cant get more. I might try to lower Pitoll settings back to 1, but I dont think this will improve the performance.
And like I mentioned before - scale of the cockpit is off. I am sure of it. The seat looks like a baby seat you use in a car…

Thanks for the video link! watching it right now

Run the Room Setup in PiTool, start FS2020 and it should fix your issue!

btw should I install that “openXR” thing from Microsoft? Does it work with Pimax 8kx?

Good old times  I guess we just have different priorities, and Im not really a YouTuber nowadays.

That’s only for WMR headsets as far as I know?

Btw, Merry Christmas to you all, and happy flying! :santa::santa::santa:

Hi,
I also had issue with “no hardware” - but successflly managed to launch using steamVR->openXR = box version works !
Using setup: Pimax5K+ / i9-9900K [ at 5.1Ghz ] / 2080Ti at 90fps [ 45fps - Smart Smoothing ] is out of range unfortunattely - especially as I really wanted to keep volumetric clouds at high [ looks much better ] and other settings at low/medium. I am able to do so using 72FPS Pimax mode [ to keep 36 SS even at big cities SanFrancisko / New York ]
and found it possible using 60% Render Scale [ yes not perfect but till further optimisation of game necessary - till that time ]
Pitool Render at 1.25, Steam 100%

also found this really helpfull at MSflight forum [ thx to user azmidi for for his work ! ) - not seen here, but think it might be helpfull to tweak for other.

Settings % Average FPS loss from Lowest to Highest Value
*Render Scaling 88.89%
Volumetric Clouds 30.59%
Ambient Occlusion 17.00%

Terrain Shadows 9.60%
Anti-Aliasing 8.13%
Light Shafts 5.33%

what does that mean please? You use Pimax and you installed openXR? Does it increases performance?

This makes game box version [ MS Store ] VR usable [ not performance ] - I confirm that fix for “no hardware” works !

Thanks for sharing that…

Any developer that forces us to use parallel projection to correct for their broken effects is not supporting hmd’s with canted displays like pimax. it’s especially egregious when they blow it off on their forums literally saying they dont officially support pimax and will not fix their bad math. (want to say elite dangerous, no mans sky, squadrons all went that route)

Hi,

Yesterday I tried MSFS for the first time successfully in VR with my 8kx. Used default settings in MSFS , Pitool and SteamVR. Aside from the artifacts on the extreme outside the overall experience was very positive and encouraging. Did not use PP since it killed my fps. Had about 30 fps with PP off and very smooth flights.

based your printscreen ethernet and one core is bottleneck

i too had artifacts on the outside till i started steam vr from within pitool see earlier posts

is your monitor view like this

if not thats is why you are seeing artefacts on the edge

At least for me thats the case YMMV
