For those thinking any Pimax headset may have some lifespan

I’m 100% with the op and my view is that a trade-in or a proper discount would solve alot.
But we’re wasting our time here. Kevin even said that they don’t listen to our whine, since there’s only about 80 of us hanging around here on a regular basis. The math is that everyone else is happy and therefore we’re just wrong.
Edit: and besides, they still think their “upgrade plans/deals” are great.

Well you don’t have to buy, but consider this. You didn’t buy a Pimax yet. You backed an idea and your reward was a headset.
If panel tech affords an improvement and is cost effective why wouldn’t they advance the product.
I appreciate the speed at which this happened, but since Pimax doesn’t make the panels, I suspect it is more a matter of the new tech being available now and not a 5 month cycle.
Personally, I am quite happy with my 5K+ and even though the 8K+ and 8KX will be better, I can’t complain about progress. I encourage Pimax to continue to separate itself by as wide a margin as feasible from the pack.

Well the discontinued Pimax 4k & B1 just had a fix implemented as previous pitool was reducing the FoV.

So yes the 8k will continue to be supported. In fact that was part of the whole idea of modules.

I was a HTC VIVE holder, so I fully enjoyed 8K with a HMD only backer.
The fullbacker, which didn’t have a BS and controller, became an old model before 8K showed its power.
I think they need some kind of relief.

“I mean the people who stuck with the 8K are essentially owners of a discontinued product at this point.”

Was this quoted from me? It sounds familiar.

Yes it was. I apologize for not attributing it. I wasn’t quite sure how to do the quote thing, but not stay in the same thread. (and too old to learn much anymore)

I stuck with the 8K, it was a huge leap forward from my Oculus CV1which is all I ever expected. I’m pleased with it and plan to keep it until something a lot better comes along. I’m obviously disappointed with the clarity not being right up there but on the whole it’s a great bit of kit. As a seated gamer the lack of controllers hasn’t affected me, but I can understand why people would be annoyed about that.

Oculus had lots of issues before getting on top of customer support so it wasn’t entirely unexpected that Pimax has issues too.

I can’t justify an upgrade on something I’ve only had a for a few months at this time, so I’m sticking with it. As long as it’s supported and the software keeps improving I believe I’ve had my money’s worth from it. It’s lifespan is as long as it’s supported not as long as it’s the top of the heap…technology moves on.

By discontinued doesnt mean not supported. The first 8K model will still support all accessories, all new PiTool versions and most new features the panels can offer. The reason for discontinuing the first 8K was mainly because of the low demand. Its still a very competent headset though. The fact that mew models are coming is another thing, and yeah technology moves on fast.

Is fact that new Oculus and Valve models are coming per 2-3 years period. This is not a tech that moves on fast, just Pimax still developing it’s first 2nd-gen headset but make a face that this is a park of highlyspecified models.
Yes, Pimax can solder some new parts in his prototype headset weekly and then call it with new name, lucky for them they have working gear. They just have no vision of Pimax place in the VR-world.

Agreed. I also stuck with the 8K. I only play seated games also. I bought a single base station and have been happy overall, even though my unit has a couple of cracks.

Yesterday’s PiTool update seems to have improved the visuals a bit. The distortion appears to have been reduced in Large FOV and there seems to be less aliasing and small text seems to be a bit easier to read. I’m pleased that Pimax continues to update the visuals.

I plan upgrade to an 8KX before the backers’ discount expires, but I want to see some reviews first.

That reply seems unrelated to my whine

As I have mentioned a few times before, and by the looks of it being the odd man out, for it: I for one absolutely want as frequent refreshes as possible, in time with more capable components becoming available.

…but those would have to be just that: Refreshes of the base model, maybe with their year or something attached to the name, like on cars - not new models at a markup.

If updates are frequent enough, I do not have to upgrade every cycle; I can buy in at any time, and get the top of the line for that moment, and then maybe skip a few.

Somewhat related as the theme is about new headset models replacing the old.

Yeah Like Nvidia, Amd & Intel never do that right?

The truth is the 8k+ can safely be Said to have more than just screens replaced. New Screens, scaler/bridgechip, RE housing & likely some other upgrades to the ic.

Model names is perhaps better than say HTC with it’s trackers I believe. You have to be careful as there is v2.0 & also v1.0 released under 2018 version. If not careful wanting the v2.0 you might get a v1.0. This might have also applied to some selling LHes on Ebay; if you don’t search the model number you may get a v1.0. Though most should know by now how to identify a v2.0 LH.

On the bright side, that just makes it a rare out of print never to be seen again collectors item for the few fanatics with the rig required to actually drive the beastie.

That basically doubles the eBay price when you sell it and buy your 5K+!
