It seems that distortion happens when the eyes are not in the position that Pimax optimized for. That optimal position seems to be attained by people who have more asian face types, so smaller forehead and more protruding eyes. When you have a bigger forehead and more recessed eyes, you’ll have a problem.
This seems to be the case cause several people confirmed this. Also the people who said they saw no distortion, could see it when moving the headset about 1 cm further away (by simply putting their fingers between their headset and their face), or by tilting the headset by putting their fingers only between the upper part of the headset and their face (so simulating a bigger forehead).
Maybe this implies that pimax could just make different distortion profiles for different people. Then again, it might also mean they’d need to make different lenses for different people.
StarVR somehow succeeded making a ‘one size fits all’ lens in terms of distortion which of course would be best. But otherwise I’d be happy to pay for lenses that are optimized for more distance between the lenses and eyes.
There is something to consider in relation to face shape. For example, Sebastian Ang can not see peripheral borders with the StarVR, But I can as others also. This seems similar with those that cant see the distortion with the Pimax, while I can and others. It may be a mixture of face shape and IPD.
For me and the Pimax XR, to test the warping, I disable the Steam VR Home and stand on the usual black environment. Then stand in a position where the play area boundaries hover around the peripheral area. If you slowly move your head back and forth you can clearly see the boundaries lines distort. However, the brain can adapt to them and eventually don’t bother while playing.
It’s hard to come to solid conclusions here. Sebastian is half Asian so you might think that facially-speaking he should be a closer match to what Pimax optimized for, but his complaint about seeing distortion implies that he has deeper-set eyes, i.e. non-Asian. On the other hand, the fact that he cannot see peripheral borders would suggest his eyes are more forward, like typical Asian eyes. The other possibility for the latter observation is that his eyes are closer together rather than forward. This would also make it less likely to see the periphery.
Modding Skyrim is easier than its ever been with Wabbajack, the mod tool mentioned earlier in this thread, its a one click auto-installer that does 90% of the work for you. There are a few prep things you need to do before and some things to do after but its mostly copying some files over. Ive been using the VR Essentials mod pack and its truly amazing and was a breeze to install.
Its very easy for Skyrim modding to balloon in size. Lots of mods are huge in size and when you start adding hundreds of mods in things can get out of control.
Yea but that’s why you slowly add stuff and only keep the essential stuff otherwise you are just bloating the game and making it more unstable and prone to random crashes and stuff.
