Finally I received PIMAX VISION 8KX today [Review]

Not to be off topic and thanks for the feedback but your record collection is amazing! Or are they comics?

I know this might not be the correct place to ask but Do Pimax Headsets work with the newest AMD Graphics Cards?

So judging from this thread, pimax are delivering now? If I order an 8kx, how long will it take to deliver to me? I’m in UAE

At least another few months.

Pimax are indeed delivering the first 8kx Hmd’s to the original Kickstarter backers. If you order now you’ll join a list of first come first served upgrading backers then preorders. Sweviver gave us an update earlier…Pimax are producing roughly 600 units a month at present but they will scale up.

I am also interested in this. On the youtube show it was said that you could upgrade for $949 if you opted out of stretch goals. Where do I place this order? It was also said that it was limited to the first 500 who would get in before preorders, any update if there is still available units in this group of 500?

Hope Sweviver or anyone else who is clued in can help us answer this.

Cazman, were you the guy with the Eat sleep vr shirt at the NY Roadshow recently where they showed the 8k x?

Hey, that wasn’t me. I wasn’t interviewed, showed up pretty late when everyone seemed exhausted, haha. Although…I am in the video somewhere. @MikeJeffries

None of the people who’ve received their 8K-X have mentioned resolution yet and what they think of it.

There is nothing to tell about resolution - its just perfect without any doubt. No SDE, no need in antialiassing.

Could you please test the “Desktop readiability” in Virtual Desktop ?

Just try to browse some text heavy sites and feel the legibility.

Thanks.

Ok, I haven’t noticed, I admit I normally don’t use steamvr home, either start trough pitool or swap in the steamvr grid in the smaller overlay the next game…
Thanks for the heads up!

Yep, all early reviews so far are muted. Not what I expected really. I thought there might be more wow moments, or a higher degree of enthusiasm.

At least some of that might be due to the Comfort kit, which apparently was shipped with only the thick face-pad. For some people, a thinner pad may reduce distortions. I’m actually glad that I’m not in the first group to receive 8KXes, because (with time) Pimax should be able to fix any initial problems.

I think the problem is part because when the view comes close to reality, it becomes ‘normal’ and caries less of a wow factor maybe. It just gets accepted as great.

Though when I tried the Varjo that was another matter, watching down the isle in a supermarket was insane, it was almost sharper than real life

Not sure man. When I tried the HP Reverb for the first time, I was like a child at Xmas booting up all my old games and drooling at the far distance clarity.

If the 8KX can offer Reverb-like quality, wider fov, ease of use and comfort then it wins in my book.

All the 8Kx actual owners are old 5K+\8K loaners. They had the opportunity of the wow moment in the past. Actually a “good” moment after years of waiting and with the experience of old Pimax HMDs… “good” is equal to “WTF WOoooW!” Hahah

But if there’s no wow with the 8kX what’s the point of upgrading from the 5k+?

As I feared the old 5k lenses are crippling the 8KX. There’s no point throwing maximum resolution behind outdated lenses.

More people have had the wow factor with StarVRs FOV, lack of distortion and overall clarity even though the resolution is super low.

I hope one day Pimax realise their mistake before it’s too late.
