Eye tracking - how?

After the two green dots in squares I get the calibration phase where you follow a swirling red dot that jumps around. Then calibration is finished and I get to the scene with a circle of dots and a green dot that shows where you look where you can check that the calibration went fine.

I see. Well mine does nothing but produce some happy red leds and a bit of lens glare. :frowning:
What headset you got? Mine is a 5K+ and the tracker is plugged in on top.

I managed to got it working now. I did several steps: Switched to 110hz (I got a 2020 serial 5K+). Went to agressive foveated rendering and disabled hidden area mask.
No idea what did the trick but I could calibrate it now and it does work.

Edit: Ok now we’re talking. I tried to fire up Half Life Alyx at 110hz at a resolution of 5000x3000 in steam (wide FOV - I only ever play wide).
This is a resolution where it usually does not even boot. I get a pink checkerbox on the flat screen instead of the valve head turning. This doesn’t even boot with the steam settings file modded because my 2080 TI runs out of momeory I think.

Guess what: It booted and runs just fine - no scietific number here yet since HL alyx could do some auto detailing but it runs and it runs well while looking fantastic. It wouldn’t boot before but I guess the real resolution is a lot lower with the foveated rendering?

I am a family father with little playtime so not much testing comming from me. Someone has to do some comprehensive tests on this. I think the gain could be quite substantial indeed!

Nice, could someone else that got ET working share their gaming usage experience using dynamic foveated rendering?

I reinstalled Windows 10, but it doesn’t work.
There is no more workaround. Ha ha ha
This may be a problem with the product or Windows 10 build 2004…

Damn, to bad man

Guess it is time for a support ticket then?

It also doesn’t work on Windows 10 build 1909.
I tried connecting it directly to the computer with a USB cable, but it is the same.
Now it’s time to get tickets? T_T

I also tested it on a laptop.
It is the same again. “Mobile VR”…

I opened a ticket.
We have received a response that our eye tracking service has received a request for assistance and will contact you as soon as possible.
I will report every time as it progresses.

It solves at once~~

Why the f*ck wouldn’t they publish that in the announcements section?
Along with a step by step process of making it work?

Btw, is DFR working for those who managed to get it recognized?

The firmware seems to have a personal identification number.
If there is no number, it will not be updated.

Great to hear that it is working
Hopefully they can streamline something so no one else needs to go through all that

it gets stranger week by week, first you need a online service from pimax that checks the serial of the hmd unit and now you even need personalized firmware to get your purchased eye tracking working (selling it again might be a problem that way if its bound to your name and hmd serial)
i’d have liked to that before buying, where i live that kind of behavior might allow to get the money back but trying that with a company in china will be a problem
such hidden string attached will not build trust for new customers

Thanks, I raised a ticket now for myself, also got the Mobile VR in the Device Manager, looks like maybe these are from the very early badges which were not branded by Pimax. Glad this is now working for you with the 8K as well !

It is expected that many people have received products with the wrong firmware stored. ha ha

So is there a clear performance boost?
Will DFR work?

First of all, eye tracking is unstable.
Popcorn is splashing.

The sharpness of the center and left and right changes depending on the line of sight.
However, the top and bottom work in reverse.
Rather, it will look very low resolution.
