How Elitist of you
Thanks for sharing.
I think thatās a good bet. Compressing the dissent to thousands of posts in fewer threads is a great way to ensure everything else continues running smoothly, no matter how many of their customers are thoroughly dissatisfied by a single issue.
Problem is, this sort of tactic encourages the remaining playerbase to believe their interests are incompatible with anyone elseās. Itās a great way for a company to back themselves into a corner.
That is to say, by imposing such constraints on gameplay, FDev has pitted VR against non-VR players, and PvE players against PvP players. I am very concerned that false economy mentality may have a long term impact well beyond the gaming industry.
Such tactics should only be used as a last resort, and FDevās overuse is further evidence of their gross incompetence.
What an insultingly paternalistic rhetorical question. If ever hard evidence was needed that FDevās forums suckā¦
Haha. You know as well as I do though, that there is no point in having anything mounted on your hardpoints if I swoop down on you in Open. Without a āfully engineeredā ship, which used to take 600-1500hours of grind, now around 400hours, there are only two things you can do. Fit plenty of armor, and high wake.
Good luck running a griefer blockade in Open.
@KraitPhantom Hereās something you may be able to do. Stuff your FDev forum signature full of links to hidden threads. Like I did. Since itās retroactive, any thread you post in is going to point people (and maybe FDev themselves) to the dedicated topic for that line of reasoning.
No VR,No Buy! What do we want? VR! When do we want it? Forever! Join the protest! - Announce to all VR CMDRs | Frontier Forums Donāt break squadrons! FDEV will be breaking up Squadrons ā¹ | Frontier Forums
I have been in chat with a content creator, he will be talking to other creators and he/they will be putting questions to the CMās to try and get answers and putting VR users fears across at the same time.
With their contacts at least these issues will be directed to the people that matter, instead of being either closed in the forums, or hidden in threads 100ās of pages long.
If i do find out any information i will pass it on here.

@KraitPhantom
Thanks for that. Try to emphasize that we VR users do NOT want to be forced to jump onto a flat screen. Just having headlook at all times, or not having any semi-mandatory non-VR grind, would be at least tolerable solutions to the vast majority.
Also, a shout out to anyone who will listen about making Power Play open-only would be greatly appreciated.
To be honest, the main complaint will be to get VR into Odessey so that we can at least play with other Odessey users when in VR, sorry but even if that does mean the FPS will be flat screen on launch, and can be added later. At least for squadron gameplay you could still at least take part in the missions up to getting out the SRV
As we dont even know how all this FPS is going to work, do you have to get weapons/upgrades in the FPS game play, and meet the engineers etc, who knows, this may even make having nothing but All VR support pointless.
There is only so far they can push as well, and asking for everything on launch may really fall on deaf ears, going to flat screen and using controller may even be the best we could hope for.
Problem here is if I am forced to transition to a flat screen, for the FPS or anything else. If I can completely just ignore the FPS because it doesnāt support VR, fine. But FDev has imposed PvP impacting grind and such on every aspect of every feature of ED, to force us to do absolutely everything.
In this case, that would mean VR users, popping the headset off every single time an āFPS mode thingyā needs to happen in the game. Which for a rack of 10 missions to complete, could basically amount to, making VR simply infeasible.
Basic VR headlook at all times, like what we had with Horizons, would be fine, and should require precisely zero developer resources.
I know how you feel mate, i have 4000 VR and HOTAS hours and have never played on flat screen, i dont even know the keys to take off or control the ship.
But to get Odessey game play and when it gets to FPS things, then even if its flat screen in the HMD and have to pick up a controller i would at least except that on Launch.
Lets be real about this, the biggest Bug report was for Pimax headsets and PP issues it was voted to the highest level, All ED done was to release at statement saying they only support HTC Oculus Index mainstream headsets. Slanted Screens are not supported, its ironic as the Index has slanted screens, but SteamVR adds PP as needed So users dont know this is even a setting that is being applied , slowing down frame rates on an Index in ED
I absolutely will not. I imagine squadrons will divide into Horizons only users, exactly as you anticipate, if VR users are forced to jump in and out of their headsets.
If nothing else, all FDev has to do is not impose mandatory FPS or other desktop only grind. There is no excuse not to accommodate that, except pure ego and greed to force players to buy Odyssey, without even being allowed VR.
VorpX allows us to do this without even access to the source code. FDev really should have no problem whatsoever anyway just leaving VR headlook enabled at all times.
Not being so pushy it triggers a pushback reflex in response, apart; It would have been nice had one of those asking questions been an engine-level VR-savvy programmer, who might not be as easily hoodwinked as plebs like the rest of us. :7 -Just rudimentary (ā¦and temporary, hopefully) HMD stereo cameras, with everything playing and controlling exactly the same as non-vr, except with absolute head pitch replacing vertical mouselook, and head turn being additive to horizontal mouselook, is really not a particularly involved task (zero-g might add a minor complication to the vertical control, it it is in there).
Nothing that closes off parts of the game, unless one do any sort of mode/build change, is acceptable, frankly, IMHO, so no thanks to any talk of a āsplitā. :7
IF, despite all their history,it had been the case that FDEV fully and excitedly absolutely do mean to reimplement VR entirely - including their current hack-y bits, and to do it right all the way this time, and are simply waiting for there being OpenXR API implementations that cover more HMDs, before putting the brunt of their efforts into it (for a unified and future-proof interface ( waiting, even though the 1.0 API exists right now and could be targeted in anticipation, even if every Kronos group partner is not quite ready yet)), that might have been kind of understandable, but I do not believe that in the slightest.
Only other technical case I could envision for delaying - again provided a firm commitment is truly there, would be it could conceivably give them an opportunity to come up implementation ideas in hindsight, when they have had the opportunity to see how Odysses plays, for a time, by many different players, and maybe even get discovered fundamental needs for changes to how the game operates out of the way first.
ā¦of course; Not thinking of how VR will work right from the outset, before a single line of flowchart has been drawn, itself means oneās retrofit is likely to entail having to tear up finished and balanced and polished hard work, and start to patch in bypass arteries harvested from roadkill, and stuff, but hey⦠:7
Agreed. Not credible, for those and other reasons, at best.
Why do you want to remove features for strictly Solo players (like me)? I donāt like that Solo and Open share same universe but that is not going to change.
One of the things I now appreciate about SC is that itās one universe for all (per server anyway, until the long awaited server meshing tech comes in), but there is virtually zero griefing. Very very different from Open in ED. Ship speed mechanics arenāt final, but even the interdiction ship doesnāt have a huge combat capability, so it canāt be easily misused to prey on others. And large combat ships require a large crew to be effective, so solo griefers are simply not a thing, at least in my experience. I simply donāt worry about griefing any more.
The only exception is around lawless crime spots like unmarked drug labs and stash houses, where rival dealers and security may all be battling each other. That I can accept as part of high profit risk on the black market, and you know what youāre doing if you go there. Normal business is not a problem.
I was also hugely sceptical about prison gameplay. But now that Iāve seen v1 of it, I take it back. Not a bad gameplay loop in itself with hand mining, and a lot more to come, but most importantly itās acting as an effective deterrent to doing crime, esp anti-player crime. There are a lot of people who genuinely donāt want to do time now who otherwise might have
C&P is well thought out and logical, and expanding all the time. Conversely I was routinely baffled by FDevās decisions, there are so many elements that they didnāt think through properly and cause big problems further down the line, which are then left unsolved unfortunately.
Also worth saying that given the scale of ED, the vast majority of Open is of course utterly empty. Only certain popular stations and engineering spots need caution, and are well known by most.
However, during an encounter, the odds were always largely in the attackerās favour, and FDev didnāt seem to have any care to address that, pushing people to Solo or PG as a means of defence. Another design flaw that was ignored.
Peer to peer instancing adds to the mess. For example, being in a wing and jumping into a system - only to find that the rest of your wing have been moved to another instanceā¦and your instance contains a wing of griefers Thatās happened to me before, and makes system defence largely pointless.
TFW No Manās Sky is the best Space sim after all. PS. Iām only saying this because of the Mech Update.
Oh wow, these forums are not the place for that debate. But Power Play is a competitive thing. NOT like the BGS. People driving an Imperial Cutter into a station to unload 700t of hostile propoganda, or actively taking down their NPCs, should be facing some opposition for that. There is also the problem that Solo/PG is allowing botting and fifth column, which is basically cheating.
@generic
No Manās Sky⦠any PvP fronts? HOTAS controls? Do the ships or universe have the potential to be adapted to organic PvP? Also, the ship controls in general look a lot less refined to me.
It looks like a cool game, but not with quite the degree of empty promises that I want FDev held accountable for.
Yes but you donāt get bogged down with microtranscations. You get updates that actually give you fun features and not just grind.
Cool. If decent HOTAS support can be achieved, I will probably play it.
Long-term though, I want real organic PvP. I think now it is likely a game will be specifically developed for that.
I doubt that is very popular considering how Eve Valkyerie and Similar Arena games died out.
Eve Valkyrie, sadly, was a very limited attempt to ātest the watersā. The parent company probably has too much to lose by creating a real VR competitor to the existing Eve Online, as much of the playerbase is very committed to a gameplay mode that does not allow any possibility of evasive maneuvers.
Speaking of though, I enjoyed Eve Valkyrie. In the 8kX, it is even more amazingly beautiful, and it is a real shame there donāt seem to be many players around anymore.
