Dream Air image morphing and Fish Eye style views

Recently picked up a dream air and wondering if this is a result of the pancake lenses, IPD not dialing in or a symptom of Oled panels. I’m finding it a little hard to describe but wonder if anyone else has had a similar issue. My view inside the headset has an odd fish eye effect. When I turn my head objects closest to my point of view subtly bend and stretch in the opposite direction to my head movement when just off centre point when I rotate my head left and right, but it doesn’t happen if i keep my view forward and side step / strafe left and right.

Say I’m looking straight ahead and and want to look down at the floor, as I move my view downwards the floor bulges perceptibly upwards towards the centre of my view and shrinks back to flat as I return to looking ahead and although it’s subtle I can’t unsee this effect and after a time it does make me feel a bit seasick.

I tuned out my motion sickness years ago playing Serious Sam on the CV1 and I’m upgrading from the Valve Index which had no such issues maintaining the proper scale and positioning of the world and everything in it regardless where I looked so feeling a bit queasy is on the Dream Air with this mad warping effect is an unexpected shock to me. Any insight on the cause would be appreciated as I really don’t want to give the Dream Air back but if this persists it could be a deal breaker. I can train my brain to largely ignore it when doing anything action packed but as soon as I stop to admire the scenery, the fish eye style warping becomes painfully obvious. I don’t want to open a ticket without first trying to figure out what the cause might be.

Help…

Remove the face mask and carefully hold the headset to your face. Try moving it slightly forward/backward and see if this makes a difference

Headset are very sensitive to eye relief (distance from eyeball to lens) especially this tiny headset.

Personally I had to use a 3d printer wide face mask and thin cushion to set my eye relief correctly (bring my eyes forward) which eliminated any distortion and brown tint

I’m usually the ancillary design which suits my western fit

Thank you for the reply I appreciate the advice.

Removing the faceplate and checking the distance to the lens which yes gives me better field of view and lessens that horrible brown tint on the fringes, the distending / morphing effect continues regardless  It would seem it’s not a focus issue.

Unless anyone has any other ideas I reckon I’ll have to ticket it.

If you have tried adjusting eye relief the only other suggestion would be to recheck your ipd (inter pupillary distance) as your known far ipd (from optician or self measurement) may not work correctly within the DA optical stack. You could try increasing the ipd a couple mm beyond your normal setting and see if this improves your situation.

Eye relief can effect ipd depending on lens geometry so this may clear things up.

Otherwise if there is a defect in the lens causing a distortion it’s time to speak to support. Try looking through a single eye it can sometimes reveal this.

With my DA I don’t get any distortion since getting my setup correct however I find the field of view slightly restrictive especially horizontal feels like my periphery is clipped either side but I’m used to the Super 50ppd which feels huge in comparison
