“Do you want the headset shipped in January or would you prefer to have your entire order (controllers and base stations) shipped at the same time (in April)?”
That was the question in kickstarter survey.

I want the headset and single base station I ordered delivered in February. Obviously the controllers were going to be delayed because the still don’t exist but the base stations were quoted as being low risk and available. Problem is now your gonna have a whole bunch of people reviewing the headset based on rubbish gyro tracking for the whole of Q1. Bad move for Pimax
I still think it is cute people expect Pimax to start shipping in January. I mean they could, but statistics suggest they won’t.
Personally I hope they don’t. I just think they need to get the first headsets out with tracking
Maybe it’s their first Kickstarter and they haven’t learned how this works yet.
I just found the whole comment ridiculous, on the KS Survey.
“Ok so we have the Pimax 8K CV1 all ready for you, as promised, in January. However, we have no base stations so you’re not going to be able to use it until April.”
Unbelievable.
Hello, I recommend to you work with base station for better experience.
We will update the shipping schedule later. The base stations are estimated to ship together with controllers.
So cant we use it at all without basestation?
It depends on the game. For a seated game, that doesn’t need the special controllers, you’ll be fine. I’m planning on using my 8K for Elite: Dangerous; it should be OK.
Without a lighthouse, you are limited to rotation (not position). I’m using a EDTracker today, which has the same limitations, so I won’t miss positioning very much. I’ll be able to turn my head and look up or down, but I won’t be able to lean forward or to the side (at least until my lighthouse arrives in April).
Better than nothing
While leaning is not necessary, it does help to alleviate the weird feeling that can be present when physically leaning and nothing happens.
It also can help when wanting to view cockpits/menus/objects up closer.
True. But i can survive a few months without it.
I wouldn’t underestimate it. Positional tracking is super important. In my opinion this is the difference between just watching something in 3d and real vr.
I don’t know what this EDTracker is, but if you only tried VR without positional tracking i am sure it will just knock you out of your shoes…
IMHO it is definitly necessary for VR.
For me motion tracking is not really about the leaning. It’s about all the small head motions I don’t even notice I do - when I’m using a non-tracked headset, the lack of tracking those tiny motions just makes the whole experience feel off, and is one of the reasons people got a lot less sick with Oculus DK2 over DK1, with DK2’s camera-based motion tracking (also the higher 75hz refresh helped). If you don’t get VR/motion sick, you should be fine using just the orientation changes, especially if you are used to using a head tracker with the game for a few months, but I would definitely use a base station the moment you can, it’ll make a world of difference.
I don’t disagree. That’s why I ordered a base station along with my 8K headset.
My point is simply that the headset will be useful in Elite Dangerous from day one. I won’t miss positional tracking, since I’ve never had it. It’s not a big deal for me to wait until April (or whenever) for the base station to arrive.
