Did anyone else see the Sadly it’s Bradley BSB video last night?
Sounds like Nofio who are making the wireless module for the Index are also making a module for the BSB. Should be the same price.
I’m pretty sure that you don’t be happy with the Arpara ![]()
I bought a Pre-prduction unit from ebay, and the lens quality is not good enough to make the uOLED shine, but the biggest problem is the blur that happends every time I move the head.
Which make the headset practically unusable unless in a very static game (the image is OK if the camera is moved “by the game” instead of turning the head).
Give is the cliff notes. Was he as critical as he usually is? ![]()
He mentioned Pimax and crystal (someone asked “Why do you hate Pimax?”) to which he replies that he doesn’t but he feels they try to do too many things at once and ends up resulting in an unpolished product, along with the crystal just being too bulky and heavy for him personally. That was about all he said in regards to Pimax.
He also mentioned he struggled with pupil swim on crystal due to aspheric lenses. Said that no one else is doing aspheric apart from Varjo who can correct most of this with software but not all. Believes pancake lenses are future despite large amounts of light being lost.
I have been using crystal for about a week myself coming from Varjo vr3. I have been struggling also with what might be pupil swim or might be my eyesight. I have booked an appointment with optician to be sure. Someone on discord mentioned that Crystal is focused at 1m rather than the usual 1.5m which might explain why I had no problem with previous headset. So I don’t want to judge until I’ve tried prescription lenses.
However if I can get this problem corrected I believe the headset with its larger fov & brighter more colourful display along with rather nice audio will be acceptable.
Pupil swim merely just means that your pupils move. Different pupil position means different part of the lens you’re looking through. This can cause distortion especially in aspheric lenses. There’s also quite some distortion on the varjo in my opinion
Hi Djonko,
Do you still use your Varjo?
I only ask because the distortion has been much improved from early days. Still there of course if you look for it but I suppose that is the price for nice clear aspheric lenses. I have used pancakes in quest pro & Pico 4 and I do find them acceptable so if Bradley is correct and aspheric dies out I can live with that.
Still curious about the BSB ![]()
Unrelated but cool. @Djonko you might be interested in this as well. Pancake
Making Your Own VR Headset? Consider This DIY Lens Design - XR Hardware - XRTropolis One
Makes me think back to original Vive Pro days when everyone was buying cheap gear vr units to strip out the glass lenses and perform surgery on their expensive new headset with yukky fresnel lenses.
The Aero lenses are nice and the distortion can be almost completely ignored, especially in Sims, but yeah it’s there. Pro type lenses are the future IMO, those things are like magic. Shame the rest of the Pro was suboptimal.
Same old story: Great visual, toilet roll FOV. Is anyone out there at least have a thought on wide FOV headset beside Pimax? Lol
Once we have the 50 series GPU with Display Port 2.0 or higher we’ll see the floodgates open. StarVR was ahead of its time for high resolution consumer GPUs.
The leap we’re waiting for is not far away.
Latest rumours are that nvidia might delay till 2025 … I’m afraid it makes sense, apart of VR who needs a 5000 series … And AMD seems to have lost focus on the high-end all together.
Even if 50 cards don’t come next year maybe a Super can upgrade the display port to 2.1.
Kinda odd that the 4000 series (at least 4090) doesn’t have DP2.1
Maybe that’s some forward thinking there. ![]()
Good old planned obsolescence. ![]()
I think once the audio strap is released and assuming it will be on the same level as the Index I can see this replacing the Index altogether.
One sad thing though is if BSB remains a good seller we won’t see a price drop for at least 12 months.
1920x1920 @ 90hz and not ET or HT in 2023 for €1.000+?
Hard pass.
