Best possible gaming PC for high-end VR and Pimax 8KX?

Depends on who You’re trying to sell it to… :+1::wink:

How many have paid more than $5/hour for some comparatively silly amusement park ride though? Now, at least we can get an adequately close to full fidelity flight sim, for a whole lot less, in our own homes.

There’s a big difference as they don’t have to worry about keeping it running, not leaking etc…

You probably need to have a support line and onsite troubleshooting…

Doubtful. My Threadripper custom water cooling loop has had zero problems, aside from expecting to change the coolant ever 2-3 years.

Basically all cars these days are water cooled, and end users are mostly accustomed to changing the fluids, or periodically taking the car to the shop.

That’s proven mainstream technology. Hardly comparable…

That used to be the case. These days, I am getting very good at pushing out systems reaching that degree of technological readiness.

If you look closely at the picture I posted in your extension cable thread, you will notice a green box on the side of my headset. That is a 3D printed device for quickly and maintainably making a lot of splices, invented only a few weeks ago for 3D printer extruders… and it works really well.

@mirage335
what system you are currently using ?

rtx 3090 @ 2085mhz with 10900k at 5.2 ghz ?

Cars also have more harsher broad environments to work in. Where as a pc is typically ran in more of a controlled environment.

Currently an RTX 2080 Ti @ 2045MHz and i9-9900k at 5.1-5.3GHz (all cores, set lower when not needed) with HT off.

My conclusion is that even with a 3090 and i9 9900K, some games like DCS, Elite Dangerous, and No man’s sky continue to struggle. We’d need a GPU at least twice as powerful as a 2080Ti to get a smooth framerate in those games.

That was my conclusion as well, and it’s why I wanted decent multi-GPU rather than even a 60% faster GPU. Since we didn’t get there, for at least the next two hardware generations, there is going to be a ‘legacy software’ need for exotic cooling, and beyond that a more fundamental need for exotic CPU cooling…

Hence, why I am thinking it is the right time to fully develop such a product.

DLSS2 in VR might be our only hope to finally quit struggling with framerates. The technology seems very promising.

On the other hand, as already discussed, DCS relies on single core CPU performance. And so does FS2020 (which apparently uses 4 threads/cores according to some reports, but the utilisation is poor). There are quite a lot of FS2020 benchmarks out there proving that performance difference between RTX2060 and RTX2080Ti or even 3080 isn’t that big, at least in 1080p and 1440p.

Btw the last days leaks with benchmarks of 6800XT and 6900XTX are super interesting. It indicates that the 6900 might even be faster than 3090. Sure it rumors, but something tells me AMD might have big things to reveal on Wednesday. Exciting times!

Exciting times but potentially bad news for my wallet

I would feel a lot better about that if I was getting a 120% GPU boost this generation without it being yet another project…

More development time means more downtime, and that means I can’t just flip the current machine to eBay as fast.

I’d say thats the case for virtually any game: low resolution makes it a easy job for the GPU thus increasing the frame rate and there we have the CPU as the weak point unable to produce more frames.
Increase the resolution to 4K and theres a lot more difference. As no surprise, the 4K resolution is closer to the resolutions VR most often uses, unless Pimax with 2x4K

With this I mean to say that VR Users in general and Pimax 8K users in specific should look at high resolutions when comparing video cards.

Nice job Nvidia and MSI. Delayed another month
Now I seriously hope AMD can steal the show tonight!

Damn, that’s a seriously long delay. Hopefully it’s not really that long.

Are we still expecting 3080ti soon?
