Well even the professor agreed with him, didn’t he now? So he must be onto something. Also you haven’t presented any evidence that makes sense, that would contradict him. In fact, you’ve never even seen M1 yourself.
This forum has a good dynamic and mix of different opinions. Just like political parties have opposing parties of different views so that a balance is found to please the majority. Same here in this forum, you need both sides or it won’t work. Let’s try to keep it as rational debate and not fall into chaos just yet.
Oops, this was a general reply, not specifically to you Heliosurge.
My own speculation, conjectured from what has been said is that the M2 is more M1.1 and does not warrant an entire version jump, which is why testers have not received a new unit as they pretty much have it via software updates and has been hinted at. A lot is riding on the meetup even as @dillanski said that one must respect the price this fits into. Well the KS price anyway.
As long as it beats the current HMD’s on several fronts then this will sell. The holy grail is for it to beat them on all fronts but realistically that won’t happen as the R&D is just not there to match the big boys and their clever little tricks.
So, somewhere between a Rift and a Vive Pro would be great. Better than a Vive pro would be amazing. Price pending of course.
I think this is exactly what Pimax is thinking. While (at least some of) the testers think that the HMD could be so much better if Pimax would change a few things. We’ll have to see on how many fronts it will beat the current HMD’s out there.
If the screen doesn’t look on par or better than the WMR headsets then no-one will want them despite the wide FOV
Aye, the panel upgrade was welcome. Shame they don’t have steam tracking though or they would be much more competitive.
From what I understood it will be at least on par with the WMR headsets in terms of SDE and resolution. But it won’t be at the Pimax 4k level, which in theory should be possible and what, I think, people have been expecting.
After seeing how the 8K is accepted they may just tweak the 8K-X as Neo and others hope for.
I don’t understand why they never introduced better tracking+ option with a usb camera setup of some kind for wmr headsets
Probably to keep the price down. Most of them are cheap as chips.
Well i feel sorry for Neoskynet since it seems the Pimax 8K will not be what he want it to be and I can understand the disappointment. But it was never gonna be perfect and for me the question I come here reading post and waiting for the review that we will eventually get is: Is it gonna be the one i wanted.
What i want is:
Little to no screen door effect.
Better Resolution than vive.
Better FOV than the vive.
Clear and beautiful picture at least in front with acceptable sweet spot.
Also with all that it should be immersive that is what VR is about.
Comfortable enough for long session.
Good tracking but really this goes with the immersiveness.
And I of course don’t want it to break in the first year if i’m been careful with it.
As I see it the Berlin backer meetup isn’t for backer to give green light to the project as a hole but for individual to be able to decide if they want it now or wait. If they only offer 5-10 min hand on with no presentation of any kind and no Q&A of any kind then it’s clearly lacking for it’s purpose. I stress the IF because they might have it but the schedule so far is lacking in info and sadly Pimax as always been bad so far on organization for these thing.
I hope some of these question will get answered for me in the meeting.
As a last thought as Nesoskynet said maybe they could make it better with little change it’s possible and this can be said of any releasing product more time always help if used well. But it’s already a very late and delayed project so as a company they can’t just upgrade it indefinitely i just hope they have a solid product at this point in time.
Not in the least. What they release will make or break them.
I don’t like the way Neoskynet is being attacked. Clearly his comments make uncomfortable reading but they are still valid and far more informed than most other posters here.
The confusing thing here is that some testers seem to believe that the changes required would be rather easy to implement because if the improvements they require were difficult and expensive, I assume the testers would appreciate that that is perhaps asking too much.
And if these were easy, then there are only two reasons why Pimax don‘t implement them. Either they disagree with the testers about these points being valid at all, or they feel they don‘t have time to address them. I hope for the second to be true, because then at least there is a chance that they will address is after having released the first few batches of the 8K.
Or, as D3Pixel suggested, they secretly aim to make the 8K(X) the better 8K which then may have a new upscaler chip which can be used or turned off, and with all the polish we would have hoped for in the 8K.
I for one wasn’t attacking them if you felt I was I guess I didn’t choose my word well enough. I understand that different ppl want different thing.
Cant the backers at the meetup, if asked if they think its good enough, just say I will leave it up to the testers, even if they think its good to go.
It comes down to backer’s individual choice.
For example you say your content to wait for Green light from testers. Another goes to meet & says I like what I see ship it. Another backer isn’t able to attend but based on feedback from the meet chooses A or B.
The meet as I said serves a few purposes but imho is not really meant to ignore or disrespect the testers. The Community has been hungry to know details of where the project stands. Pimax has by their own statement has businesses that are content with obtaining(purchasing) headset now after seeing it themselves.
So an issue that might affect a game you or I want to play. Is not an issue for their application.
These business are ready to grab any of the unclaimed headsets. If pimax made the decision to quietly make & sell these headsets to businesses & backers found out.
It wouldn’t likely be pretty. Backers would be angry at pimax for not honoring backers first as stated. And Backers would be angry at testers for not green lighting, because if businesses are happy with it; why are the testing delaying the release?
This is the reason why I’m attending the Berlin meetup. Also, I look forward to meet a lot of you in person, as I really enjoy this community!
We need to remember, none of the testers are in Berlin to “promote” the 8K, This is not a commercial roadshow. This is a social backer meetup where backers can see what to expect upon upcoming final release. The testers will be there to assist, and of course discuss with all backers. At least I’m ready for this task (and I really look forward to it).
I have also given Pimax my personal suggestions on games to show, such as Pavlov, Onward, Assetto Corsa, Skyrim VR, IL-2 Sturmovik and similar. This is not to “glorify” the 8K in “the best case scenario”, but mainly to show the backers how the headset performs in some of the most popular games available. A proof of concept. None of the games are in any way specially optimized for the 8K, but they work - just like most other VR games do on this unit.
But remember, which games will be available on the meeting is totally up to the Pimax team. We (testers) can only give them suggestions and our best recommendations.
As we all know, the M1 was never green lit by any one from the testers team. Unfortunately, it looks like we wont get the M2 delivered to our homes before the Berlin meeting (as promised before). So what we all see and experience in Berlin will be our first impression of the M2, just like you do. Hopefully there will also be new software updates available upon the meetup.
Just like you do, we have high expectations on the M2, but we are also aware of the limitations. And I think its time for you, backers, get to know the limitations as well. And I hope this meeting will give you all the info you need, to get realistic expectations upon release.
Its time for people to realize what this “next-gen” 500-700 USD wide FOV headset can deliver. Not theoretically, but realistically. This is not a 2000-10 000 USD StarVR monster, nor a 5000 USD XTAL. It’s Pimax 8K, the cheapest possible wide FOV headset you can get the upcoming year, at least.
I hope the meeting works out as expected for us all, and I hope we will enjoy it for what it is
M2 tester delighted with new insideout tracking, wide FoV and light weight design. Even the 2 4K-screens in an angular position were wonderful. Picture shows the crystal clear lenses.
It comes a bit down to Xunshu’s remark earlier, that it still is an enthousiasts product. Which for me it means a lot of tweaking before it is good and well setup for general use. I guess I will be wowed when I will be experiencing the 8K somewhere after release. It means the techies will know what to do. Personally I was using a gearVR which was enormously underwhelming. Not using it anymore because of the little fun you can have in a 3DOF large SDE experience. I just hope the 8K will deliver on SDE, 6DOF, resolution, eyetracking, leapmotion, wireless capabilities.
I dont know about eye tracking and wireless yet, but the other aspects are already achieved. Far from perfect, but I’m sure it will improve over time. Just keep realistic expectations…
