Berlin backer meetup

Exactly. In order to compare PPD one has to use single panel resolutions factored by single eye FOV.

so you are basically saying that people with glasses like me and probably 50 % of all backers will expirence huge issues with this HMD ?!

All M1 Testers should refuse to attend the meetup since Pimax refuses to allow them to have M2 in their own environments for testing.

Over 200 units “might” be made by now and Pimax can’t get some over to testers before the meetup?

Regardless what testers or backers consider acceptable, there are business partners ready & waiting with unfulfilled quotas.

Just like before. More assumptions based on what? Speculation as to what Pimax’s real motives are despite the fact they have clearly stated the exercise here is to gather fresh feedback from people not influenced by the testers. Possibly why the testers won’t get the M2 before the event. It’s also possible, they underestimated how many people would want to attend in light of what equipment they were bringing over so the 10 minute slots are all people are getting.

It might be true Pimax will use the encouragement of the backers to green-light the M2 or as they have said, simply gather the feedback before moving on to the next testing phase.

We don’t know do we, but some people are fearing the worst here including the testers who now feel out of the loop. I hope their fears are unfounded. Lest we see mass pledge selling post the event especially if there are signs of negativity.

First week of September is going to make of break Pimax I think.

Pimax would be forever fixing things if the testers are being unrealistically picky and we will be waiting longer for them , I could name loads of things that could be better with the vive pro and have modded it a fair bit but it’s my go-to headset by a long stretch and if the pimax can knock it off the no1 spot it’s ready as far as I’m concerned , So someone who has a vive pro please give me a good comparison .

Well, this is you assuming that they will be prejudiced by what they read here ? Do if you were to join the demo, you already know today that you will not be wowed ? Interesting.

Honestly, as much as I hope that Pimax do not put on a horse & pony show in Berlin while real issues remain unsolved instead of addressing them, backers going there just to prove the point it‘s us against them and no matter how the M2 performs, we will give it a negative response is not what I wish the backers do either, because both behaviours are detrimental to the goal.

We all wish for a perfect next gen headset, but Pimax for what-ever reason cannot do that, it should at least become a great ultra-wide FoV with less SDE and a good resolution. And I see value in the latter too, if we cannot get the first. And I rather go with that than turn this whole thing into a war of principle.

It is in Pimax obvious own interest to make the 8K as good as it can get with the means they have at their disposal. Their commercial success after the KS campaign will depend to large degree on the difference between having created merely a nice alternative to the Vive Pro or a must buy headset which makes people sell their Vive Pro on ebay right-away.

Thanks for posting your concerns and not staying silent as a few would want.

Without constant pressure this HMD would have been delivered by now and presumably in a disappointing state. We all want Pimax to be the first to deliver next gen VR so dedicate a lot of time trying to make that happen, if tester, backer or just enthusiast. Whatever it is today, it is surly better than it was yesterday so don’t give up. Keep calm and pressure on.

Yes but we should be realistic about what Pimax can achieve at this price point , This is all speculation not knowing what any issues were with M1 and whether they have been addressed , roll on next weekend

Awesome didn’t know you had the m2 already!

Oops we know no tester has seen the m2 with any of the improvements. So lets not presume things you cannot know because you seem disgruntled.

If anything it’s too bad your unable to attend to see for yourself.

Yes we know same panels & optics as m1. What we don’t know is what setup improvements have been optimised.

As one whom has worked in manufacturing your setup determines everything. If I don’t setup a tool right it will affect quality & consistency.

You forget backers will have a choice to receive not give it a green light.

@Heliosurge I have so much respect for you bro. Please try and keep neutral in the coming weeks. The forum will be heaving when this finally launches

I am keeping neutral. I am simply saying we can’t presume thinga based on old models. Otherwise we should make all kind if assumptions based on the old models.

A fact we do know is @benz145 from RoadToVR has tried a more recent 8k than the v5 but can’t say more than that. So who knows it might have been an m2 or the m1. He can’t say; but did say that was what he based his StarVR One compare to pimax & xtal. :beers::wink::+1::sparkles:

What that tells me is pimax asked him to check out the headset as an consultant.

Pimax told you guys what the differences between M2 and M1 are going to be. Like Neo noted these are only small differences and none fixing the bigger concerns.

Here is the problem. If you test something thinking you understand how it works & base your conclusions without actually knowing how it works.

You end up with egg on your face. If he was as smart as he thinks he is. He would sit back & wait.

Wouldn’t you agree if your 50% of the screen is correct & the 5k has the same lenses that it will look horrendous?

It comes down to proffessional pride; which can be a nasty Achilles heel.

He hasn’t convinced me yet that my topic is on the wrong track & were waiting on pimax to weigh in on the discussion.

If you recall the leak revealed 2 versions of the m1 were sent out. Not good for clear results.

Neo knows nothing of what has changed in the m2; only that core hardware is intact. Lens positioning or screen position may have been adjusted etc.

Well, maybe. I think some backers will actually be WOW-ed by the demo. Remember that it’s only 5-10 minutes in a very controlled/optimized situation, so surely some will be happy. Others might try to do some of the tests that Neo suggested above and might be less happy. We’ll see how it turns out. BTW, I don’t think, from what I heard, that it’s going to be a worthless HMD, not at all. But I think that what testers like Neo are implying is that it could become so much better with a few more tweaks/changes and Pimax doesn’t seem to be willing to do that. It might be that some pressure from backers will mean something, but actually I’m fearing it’s all in vain and that Pimax just does what they want to do, release ASAP. In which case it’s going to be Pimax 4k all over again … angry disgruntled users asking for fixes for months, new software coming out that fixes one thing and breaks 3 things … All this I had hoped Pimax would have learned not to repeat.

“StarVR seems to have a strong lead on tough problems that remain challenging for the other two. Specifically in the area of optical comfort.”
He does mention optical comfort a few times in his star vr review so let’s see if Pimax were listening and could do anything about it

Well you haven’t even tried M1 yourself, yet you lecture people like @Neoskynet, a tester who has done really awesome M1 tests of which I would have never thought to do myself. Maybe you should take a step back and see what’s happening here Helio.

I was hoping Pimax would take the testers are bit more seriously, that discussion would start between engineers and testers on how to improve the HMD, that would have been such a wonderful thing. None of that happened, so I really understand why testers are feeling used. Even more so now Pimax is denying them the right to do a review, shutting their mouths with the NDA and simply move on with the 5 minutes demo to get the WOW effect and release ASAP.

All this testing has been a waste of time and energy, it’s stupid and unfair.

Indeed this is why we need to wait & see. 50% screen usage if that’s true will be easy to recognize over that FoV by anyone whom has had a 4k, Vive Pro, Odyssy. If the 5k has the same optics it will look worst than any first gen headset.

And we know they are bringing one. :beers::sunglasses::+1::sparkles:

Well they won’t sell many 5k’s if the image quality cannot match vive pro / odyssey

Look ar that there are no published documents on optics for angle displays published. It’s all hush hush.

His ideas are good but his understanding of how it works in a special use case design maybe flawed. I have no problem stepping back & waiting on the results; he should do the same. If he continues to promote himself as infallible he might end up damaging his reputation if he is wrong.

Projectors for example use Parallel projection.

We are not dealing with Parallel projection here.

I am also guessing Ben was asked to check out a more recent 8k tgen the v5 as a consultant as a 2nd opinion. As we both know is probably a head in the field compared to many of the testers & has the most experience evaluatung hiFoV headsets.
