I took some pictures of my Pimax 4K through the lens yesterday and in my pictures there was heavy chromatic separation visible where there was none in reality in the headset.
So⌠the chromatic abberation can be accidentally made by the type of camera being used to take the picture?
Or just the zoom function? That would so much make this more difficult.
How can you compare pictures when the camera being used is giving so much different results?
It really sucks, because you look at the GIFâs and just think âI want that shaprness, definitely ! Oh, wait, I want almost invisible SDE, clearly ! Oh, but that sharpness is just so good⌠but without the SDE âŚâ and so on.
Why canât they just raise the sharpness setting on the 8K upscaler to +2 ?
Neither headset is more demanding than the other, they both have the exact same performance at the same settings (which the screenshots used to make these gifs were set at). Itâs only attempting to match the 5k clarity on the 8k by bumping up SS that would make 8k more demanding on the GPU.
Iâve seen the Rift DK2, CV1, HTC Vive, Samsung Galaxy S4 (Google Cardboard), Samsung S8+ (GearVR).
The thing that got me most was the annoying SDE. So the 8K would be the more logical choice if it were for the reviews of the testers. I am in doubt because of the brightness and sharpness of the 5K+. Also maybe wrongly preferring native over supersampling.
Yesterday I had a meeting with a music/remedial teacher in my foundation. I demoed the GearVR + S8+ Galaxy. She did found the SDE also annoying. Having used only the Rift DK2 prior. To make a business case for introducing the VR in my line of work, I need as less as possible SDE. That would make acceptance of experiences more likely, I think.
Yes but it has also been said that the 8K without its extra bump looks decidedly worse than the 5K+. So youâre going to want to crank up SS with the 8K, even though youâre not forced to do it.
Exactly. I think this is sh*t tbh. I predicted this would happen before the reviews dropped and now here we are.
This is not good, the 8K should be superior to the 5K+ in every way, not better in some regards, and not in others. Upscaling should work and be nice and sharp as you see with the 4K. The 8K is the HMD I backed and was sold on, but then Pimax dropped the clanger and seems like they shifted focus to the 5K+ (and looking at the results of the poll it seems that they succeeded in getting many people to swap from 8K to 5K+). This is truly a clusterf**k of nonsense. I should not have to dilly-dally and choose. My choice should be assured right out of the gate with no regret or doubt. But this isnât happening. What then is the point of the 8K if it fails to be recommended by reviewers and is the more expensive option?
The reviewers are not helping much either (with the decision) hence why so many people are not simply going with their recommendations of the 5K+. There are simply too many conflicting reports with nothing being definitive. Again, I predicted that this would happen (canât find the link to the thread but who cares). The images that are being posted should never have happened as they are. They cause more confusion than help matters. It is no good posting images then saying âbut it doesnât look like that in the HMDâ or âThe camera used is making it look differentâ. It would have been better to recreate the looks with photoshop and post those to the best of how you view them in the hmd.
Grrr. This is like really frustrating. I hope there is a saviour from somewhere? Pimax? Who can simply post a definitive representation that seals the deal either way. Pimax are not selling the 8K to anyone anymore and leaving it up to chance or preference based on inconclusive opinions and warped images. Why are they doing that? Someone needs to take control of this situation. Anyone.
This is very true. The number one reason for the pictures is to have a representation of reality, not a lucky shot that doesnât look horrible but is different from reality. Photoshop would indeed be better.
My biggest gripe is the consensus between the reviewers all being sold on the 5K+. I want to go with the 8K. I backed it and it kinda feels wrong opting for the other HMD now, which is seemingly the âcheaperâ but better offer. Its pretty iffy. But then again, the reviewers have spent a lot of hours on those HMDs and I regard their opinion highly.
I think it was @Yata_PL who posted his photoshopped screenshots first and IMO they are quite similar to the thru-lens photos taken. So quite accurate impressions by him.
EDIT. Turned out that my memory fails me and it was @DaHillersen who posted the images. Anyway Iâm sure both above mentioned are equally great chaps
The place to look for me is the yellow to black transition on far left of the eye. It actually looks like the 8k is doing a pretty good job of resolving that transition.
I think Iâm still in the 5k+ camp. Sure, theres more SDE but these are really zoomed in and theres significantly more detail in almost every shot from sweviver.
Yes very annoying at least on those devices. I just wonder given that the 5k+ deals with way less SDE it still will be a major decision factor. Lets say Vive is 100, 5k+ is 15, 8k is 5
I probably may be absolutely ok with â15â comming from Vive and have clarity + more performance headroom on top. From the reviews I never had the feeling that SDE is still anyhow annoying with the 5k+
