The 5K BE’s SDE should be better than the Vive and the colors and black level should be similar, although it sounds like there’s an issue with black smear (ghosting). If you’re happy with the Vive, you should be happier with the 5K BE, since it’s better in most respects and has a much wider FOV.
However, one of the backers (at the recent event) who actually tried Elite Dangerous on the 5K BE said that the text was hard to read and the SDE was worse that the 5K+. He really wanted to like the BE, but is getting the 5K+ instead.
I haven’t seen any of the headsets in person, but the 5K+ is my current favorite, due to text clarity, full RGB stripe, and 90 Hz refresh rate.
Not really trust this opion becouse I have no problem reading text even o my OG Vive in ED. I would like to know how this game was setup for BE. And forum memeber Infilgo which wrote a great review said that percived SDE is somewhere between 5k+ and Vive Pro.
I think that’s the same as what I said, “the SDE was worse that the 5K+”.
It does sound like you’d be happier with the 5K BE. I wish I could try the different headset models in person, but that’s not a real possibility for me.
I also tried ED on the 5K BE and yes the text was harder to read than 5k+ & 8K. What i mean by that is you have to move your position closer to the menus in the ship to get them clear like you need to do with the OG vive. In the 5k+ & 8k you do not need to do that, they are perfectly clear

Still curious as yo just how much worse the sde can be since the store page lists be as the same res as 5k. Surely pentile oled will make it worse but worse than vive pro/Samsung odyssey- when the 5k+ is so much better than those? Maybe there was something up with the res being pushed in game
Besides the known affects of using Pentile (1/3 less subpixels, more unused surface area) we also don’t know how the panel utilization compares to the 5K+ (if they are larger panels, they will have a lower effective resolution).
Yes if the 5k+ panels are (likely) smaller which enables more effective resolution and consequently better ( denser) colours for an lcd display so even less advantage in using the oled screens , good point I think i will stick with 5k+
I am SLIGHTLY disappointed by black levels of my 5k+ in ED. I have played many many hours of that game in my Vive and Vive Pro using HOTAS. But I am getting used to it. Lowering your ship’s brightness helps

After viewing/reading some recent impressions of 5kBE at CES I contacted pimax to ask if they would change my 5k+ preorder to 5k BE. They responded saying no change was allowed. I thought this seemed strange as I was basically offering them an extra 300 dollars. So I contacted them again this weekend and was told I could change and they sent me a link to pay the extra money. Being a big elite dangerous fan I decided to switch. Just hope this doesn’t delay my order which was due to ship in 12 days.
